Where the shift began…

I realised 6 years ago that I needed to reduce waste. Putting single-use plastic into the recycling bin to be taken ‘away’ was not the answer. What if I could drastically reduce what I sent ‘away’? It can be an overwhelming task and for me was best approached in small steps - my bathroom seemed like a good place to start. I had read about the amount of toxins in skin care and make up (not to mention plastic packaging), so I researched all of the ingredients in my bathroom products and I decided I could make better choices. Everything in nature is a chemical, but some are not great to have on your skin, so I decided to look for simple but effective alternatives that were in reusable or refillable containers. That was nearly impossible. So I decided to make my own.

Using olive oil as a cleanser was my first step (it works so well and was a huge step since I have acne prone, oily skin). Then I started reading about the benefits of honey for skin. I found some recipes that were either too oily (it’s nice to still be able to apply makeup!) or too sticky from the honey. It really was an adventure in balancing ingredients, so I tested various blends on family and friends, omitting ingredients, adding ingredients, until I found a blend that worked well.

So that was great. I had a blend that worked for my skin, I could reuse the container, I knew there were no unnecessary ingredients in it…and as a huge added bonus, I loved making it. Making Honey Face Balm became a mindful exercise for me and I enjoyed creating something that was good for me - and my friends and family. And now I would like to share it with you.

Using exceptionally high-quality ingredients from producers that are committed to caring for and protecting our environment is something that is critical to making this product. There is little point making something good for us, that is to the detriment of the environment.

I hope Honey Face Balm works for you - I make no promises that this is a miracle cream (and I know that goes against all marketing strategies!). If it works and you love it, I will be so happy. If it does not, I sincerely thank you for trying. I don’t want anyone to buy something they do not love. That creates waste and is exactly what I am trying to avoid.

Thank you for supporting my product and allowing me to have fun with each jar poured :)
